- Bristol, borough, Bucks County, southeastern Pennsylvania, on the Delaware River, opposite Burlington, New Jersey; incorporated 1720. It is an industrial community, with diversified manufactures that include textiles, rugs, paper and metal products, and chemicals. The third oldest borough in the state, Bristol was settled in the late 17th century. Its natural springs made it a popular spa, especially for Philadelphians, from 1775 to 1822. It is named for Bristol, England.
